I have always sympathized with people in lonely conditions or situations. I have always felt that depression is the worst disease. I have always said a silent prayer for someone who I feel is lonely whether I know him/her or not...
Now, I am thinking again.. It was one of those afternoons when I was making up for a sleepless night spent doing homework. I could not sleep soundly and when I woke up my mind was a senseless muddle of thoughts. It often happens when one sleeps abnormally..
And just out of the blue (or maybe it was in connection with something I dreamt), a question struck me: Am I Lonely??? And the first answer I got was: YES! perhaps I am..... possibly, we all are... After all, who else can think your thoughts? Who else can feel your emotions? Who else can understand all your actions? Who else can feel your pain? Who else can experience your happiness? Who else in this world can be even remotely close to what you are.. the life you are living..
There are people who are "acquainted" with different but incomplete aspects of our lives.. The conversations we have with them are just a few manifestations of the zillions of thoughts that crop up in our mind everyday.. We hang out in groups but we are all centers of our own universes.. The fortunate or unfortunate truth is that we are all very lonely..

now i don't quite know if that's the answer i was looking for..but i like your take on it!i guess it's just one of those times when one of life's realities dawns upon you -out of the blue!!like the Boss says,be with it!!
Hmm..interesting.
As you said..it just isnt possible to share each and everything with others.There's a private space in everybody's head that cannot be shared.
But the thing is that different people have different thresholds. A person we might misunderstand as lonely may just be a very self sufficient person who doesnt need the support of those around him. (Roark a classic example)
So, alone, lonely or a loner..its we who choose that frame of mind, we who choose what works for us.And happy or unhappy..since we chose it, nobody else should be judging it! :)

Totally Agree with you.. But I do not imply "lonely" in a depressed sort of way.. The point being that not all of us are aware, how individualistic our life is.. We are not aware of this private space we have.. And a lil thought tells me that this private space is incomparably larger than what is publicly shared.. It seems to me that we always (subconsciously) feel our life revolves around others.. Hence, the realization (of this individuality or "loneliness") struck me like a bolt that day.. It was actually a lil scary and I am trying to make the reader empathize with that feeling.. Hence, unwillingly, the need of darker words like "lonely"..

Hey few days ago I had come across a saying which presented a different approach to this argument, I think its quite a thought.
'Language... has created the word "loneliness" to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word "solitude" to express the glory of being alone. '
Hey man... thanks for dropping by at my blog. We are all very lonely, true: but friends, acquaintances, everybody --- they fill up a void somewhere. There are some things that no-one else can feel and neither can they be expressed, but these people can provide support that helps us endure the loneliness. The idea is to spend less time brooding over our own loneliness, and more time filling the voids of our own and others.
Remember, being alone is different from being lonely. It took me some years before I finally realized the truth in that. It's entirely possible to be lonely amid the embrace of several people -- and vice versa is true too. I used to hate being alone before, I always had to have some companion... until I got older and started appreciating how nice it feels to be alone in peace sometimes. It's good for the soul.
